“NASHVILLE, TN – May 2, 2019 – An historic East Nashville church is in the process of being resurrected as a lodging hotspot. The Russell, named for its location at Russell Street and 9th Avenue, is now accepting reservations for its 23 guestrooms.

The lobby shows off plenty of the preserved architectural features including two massive stained-glass windows, exposed beams and a sweeping 40-foot-tall ceiling. The auditorium and classrooms were converted into 23 splendidly-colored guestrooms and suites with paint colors drawn from those of the vivid palette of the stained glass.

The church’s pews have been upcycled to form contemporary headboards, and handmade church-style pendants hang from the lobby walls paying homage to legends like Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn. Local artists were employed to craft one-of-a-kind touches like brightly-colored tile, arched bathroom mirrors and more.

The transformation from religious site to boutique hotel included repurposing the church’s bell tower into a stunning suite that boasts an interior balcony with Instagram-worthy views of the stained glass.

The Russell caters to the digital age and guests can snap a photo in the lobby Smile Booth or record themselves in the in-house podcasting studio. Additionally, The Russell allows guests to easily check in and out using their cell phones and features a digital concierge.

Part of the allure is the walkability to venture out and explore East Nashville’s vices. Located in one of Nashville’s oldest neighborhoods, The Russell is steps from such hot spots as Stay Golden Restaurant & Roastery and Edley’s Bar-B-Que. Other local favorites include The Basement East for live music, Butcher & Bee for a fantastic meal, and dozens of other shops, bars and restaurants.

The average weekend stay is equal to 16 meals and warm beds for homeless individuals in the area. The Russell is projected to donate more than $100,000 toward non-profits in its first year of operation.

With CMA Fest fast approaching, there is no better way to enjoy the festival and awards show than at The Russell Nashville Hotel.  The Hotel is conveniently located in the heart of East Nashville, near many of the venues hosting secret shows and special appearances.  CMA Fest is expected to bring in at least 200,000 people to Nashville and by staying in The Russell Nashville Hotel you will have walking access to great restaurants, Nissan Stadium, and the Riverside venue.

Opening on June 5, The Russell Nashville Hotel will be poised to provide an indescribable experience for guests who are lucky enough to reserve one of the 26 artfully crafted rooms.

CMA Festival runs from June 6th to June 9th and we at the Russell Nashville Hotel would be honored to host you and your friends for the best experience in town.

In the heart of East Nashville, on June 5, 2019, The Russell Hotel will be open for business. After twelve months of tireless construction rehabilitating a 115 year old building, the church will redefine the term “adaptive reuse” with its use of space, its repurposing of existing church items, and its creative use of colors.

The process to completion has included installing gigantic steel beams to add support to the 30 foot ceiling, building load stabilizing pillars in the basement to anchor the new rooms, and hand-laying over 10,000 pieces of mosaic tiles to create an unforgettable foyer. Most importantly, the artisans on our team have spent 1,000s of hours re-exposing original features to the building such as the tower room, the original walls, wooden trusses and many other historically significant features.

At the small, private opening on Monday, June 3; Mayor Briley will help cut the ribbon and some of the team members will say a few words to welcome people into the hotel. However our most important goal is not to welcome the many guests who will come to enjoy the accommodations, but to open up the doors to a rejuvenated historic landmark and community center that has been a pillar of the neighborhood since 1905.

We hope everyone in the community will come visit The Russell to share in the culmination of our physical restoration and the celebration of joining the community. We cannot wait to host you and your friends!
